CBD, the acronym used to denote one of the most popular cannabinoids, cannabidiol, has been gaining traction in the cannabis community. While it’s only one of 113 active cannabinoids, it makes up almost 40% of the plant’s extract! It’s a good thing the cannabis plant has a lot of CBD; a great deal of the medical benefits responsible for making medical marijuana legal are due to CBD. As an added bonus, CBD is not psychoactive. That means you won’t get “high” when smoking straight CBD. However, most strains that have a lot of CBD will still have a trace of THC.
We strongly suggest using CBD when it’s in the presence of THC; THC and CBD combine with other cannabinoids in what is known as the “entourage effect”. The entourage effect is, basically, the multi-factor driving force behind cannabis’ efficacy in many medical domains. We speculate this may be why some studies don’t find effects when studying THC and CBD alone; their real power comes alive when they are use together. While CBD by itself won’t get you high, the addition of trace amounts of THC should leave you relatively sober, but the effects it has on unleashing CBD can be significant.
And now…to the list! Which strains have a lot of CBD? After reviewing lab testing results made available by SC Labs, we’ve identified 5 strains that are high in CBD.
1 – Charlotte’s Web: This sativa gained popularity for being high in CBD, non-psychoactive and safe enough for children after it helped Charlotte Figi treat her Dravet syndrome when she was only 3 years old.
2 – Harlequin: Another sativa, Harlequin does have a small bit of THC, but it’s high CBD content almost blocks those effects and allows for it to serve as a clear-headed painkiller.
3 – Cannatonic: The first hybrid strain on our list, Cannatonic is a cross of G13 Haze and MK Ultra. Cannatonic contains about equal parts THC and CBD, so you’ll still get a “head high”, but expect any potential for paranoia to be mitigated by the strong sedative effects of the CBD.
4 – ACDC: With only 1.2% THC, ACDC is a daily medical marijuana user’s dream come true. With just enough THC to activate the CBD, patients have reported a definitive increase in focus and euphoria.
5 – Pennywise: This strain’s makeup is as interesting as its name. A cross between Harlequin and Jack the Ripper, has a whopping 11:1 CBD:THC ratio! That means there is still some THC in there, but chances are you won’t feel it; it’s presence is merely to make that CBD come alive and help with your medical needs!
Fun fact: Pennywise got its name from the mascot of the punk band “Pennywise”: a killer clown. Since harlequin is another name for clown and Jack the Ripper was a famous serial killer, it makes sense that Pennywise was
The team at RxCannaCare uses high CBD strains to make their line of CBD-infused skin care products and CBD Vape Juice. If you’re looking for a discrete way to incorporate CBD into your lifestyle, this is the way to go. Other opportunists online will try and tout hemp oil as CBD, but the concentration of cannabinoids is simply not there. Starting with a high CBD strain is the only way to get effective medicine.
