That tree actually has a Potoo owl perched upon it, posing as a rising tree stump. They can freeze and stay in this position for a long period of time to avoid predators, keeping track of their environments through their tiny eye slits. The Potoo’s camouflage strategy is a mixture of matching the color of trees indigenous to the environment in which it lives with the added bonus of remaining as still as the tree it is making itself appear to be a part of.
Nature has a particular way of making us go “woah”.
